At Wilson’s Orchard, we pride ourselves at providing the best tasting fruit around. How do we do it? As Chug Wilson says “we cheat, we pick it ripe from the tree”. So whether you pick it yourself or buy it already picked, you’re sure to find it crunchy and full of just-picked flavor. We also grow pumpkins, which are available u-pick or already picked.
The freshly baked turnovers and frozen pies at Wilson’s Orchard are a local treasure. Throughout the apple season, we pick out the best apples and we stuff our baked goods full of ‘em. Nothing timid here, no “all crust no fruit” action, our baked goods are fruity creations. Alongside the pies and turnovers, you’ll find apple cider donuts, dried apple chips – a crowd pleasing snack, apple snack mix, and our homemade caramel drizzle.
Making good apple cider is a bit of an art. Of course you have to start with the right apples, which is where Wilson’s Orchard really shines. Our 120 varieties allow us to strike the right balance between sweet, sour, and fragrant fruit. Our apple cider is pure juice from apples. Nothing added. Nothing taken out. This process allows you to enjoy the many health benefits of apples. One glass of Wilson’s apple cider contains the raw juice of about four apples. Not to mention the benefits of potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Come by the barn and try it for yourself. We’re betting you’ll be hooked on our cider.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Our apple cider vinegar is made from the same great apples that go into our pies, cider, and turnovers. Not the supermarket varieties that shine up nice and taste like potatoes, but apples that bust with flavor. We press those apples into cider, then add “mother”, the biological culture that makes it all happen. Our culture is a gift from Jack, whose Iowa family has been making vinegar from this same mother for generations. Once the vinegar is made, we age it to produce a smooth, rich flavor. Hard Apple Cider
What makes our hard cider unique is the blend of apples we press. We choose each variety we use for its specific attributes – sweetness, tartness, tannins, and aroma. Our apples are first ground and then pressed, producing 100% fresh juice. Yeast is then added to the pressed cider triggering the fermentation process. The yeast eats the naturally occurring sugar in cider, converting it to alcohol.
